Joseph Scott was one of four partners who purchased 3,000 acres of Rancho Aqua Caliente for $3 per acre in 1852. This part of the route yields a pleasant view of the hills. There are three main peaks visible. The northern most is Mission Peak, the one with the antennas is Monument Peak (it is the tallest at over 3,300 feet) and to the south is Rose Peak (named for the Rose family).
